Deborah Melamed, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and a Certified Member of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy who completed her advanced training at the world-renowned Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research in Philadelphia. An experienced clinician with twenty years in the field, Deborah opened SohoCognitive in 2003, bringing her sophisticated cognitive therapy approach to a vibrant downtown location. Deborah specializes in treating the full range of anxiety disorders, and works successfully with individuals suffering from panic attacks, chronic worry, health-related anxieties, and social anxiety problems.

Deborah also enjoys consulting to individuals seeking a no-nonsense approach to lifestyle changes, and has incorporated proven cognitive-behavioral techniques into a comprehensive approach to weight management. Her passion about this issue has led her to develop the FoodThink model, which she uses in her individual therapy work, as well as in group workshops and workplace training sessions. In all these areas, Deborah’s goal is for her clients to leave her office with a fresh perspective and the tools they need to make significant changes in their lives.

In addition to seeing clients in her Soho practice, Deborah is an Adjunct Faculty member and the Supervision Coordinator in the psychology doctoral program at Yeshiva University, where she is helping to train the next generation of cognitive therapists. She also provides private clinical supervision, has led seminars in cognitive therapy for psychiatry residents, and serves as a member of the credentialing committee for the Academy of Cognitive Therapy.

Deborah earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, and a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the City University of New York. Prior to expanding her private practice to full-time, she was a Supervising Psychologist and the coordinator of group psychotherapy services at the Outpatient Psychiatry Department at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York. Deborah is licensed in New York State, and is an active member of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the professional organization for cognitive and behavioral therapists.
